So, umm, can I play this file in TrueHD 7.1 or am I relegated to just 5.1?

Audio Formats
English Dolby TrueHD 7.1
English Dolby TrueHD 5.1
English Dolby Digital Plus 5.1

I only included the audio formats because that's all I'm concerned with.
What about with crystalbuntu?

Thanks!

DTS-ES will passthrough in XBMC (i.e. 6.1 discreet or 7.1 matrixed). That would be a better format to remux to than Dolby Digital 5.1, IMO.

I know XBMC claims to passthrough DTS-ES, but is this actually the case on OSX? The reason I ask is every time I playback anything with DTS-ES streams, my receiver (Denon 3808) doesn't actually light-up with DTS-ES, just shows DTS Surround with the right amount of channels. There is no reason my Denon receiver shouldn't be showing DTS-ES if XBMC was passing it through properly. Anyone else have a similar experience or maybe know what I might be doing wrong?

Thank you

DTS-ES works fine on my AppleTV (runs a version of OSX). I've got two DTS-ES music albums and a couple of DVD transfers with DTS-EX. They all play fine and my receiver (Yamaha) shows DTS-ES on the display.

I got AC3 and DTS to play fine through optical but that was when I was living in a house. Since then I've moved into a small apartment and no longer have a home theater system set up so now my TV does everything by itself through HDMI. Is there a way I can set my audio settings so that I get DTS and AC3 through HDMI or anyway to get the DTS and AC3 to play through my TV speakers via HDMI without having re-encode my MKV files?

Go to Settings>System>Audio Output, select HDMI, and uncheck AC3 and DTS. XBMC will decode them to PCM. Your TV should play AC3 okay though as-is, just DTS is usually a problem.

System: XBMC HTPC with HDMI WASAPI & AudioEngine - Denon AVR-3808CI - Denon DVD-5900 Universal Player - Denon DCM-27 CD-Changer
- Sony BDP-S580 Blu-Ray - X-Box 360 - Android tablet wireless remote - 7.1 Streem/Axiom/Velodyne Surround System

oh gawd, it's so simple! here i am going through all types of configurations and not noticing the most simple one! it completely unintentionally went over my head lol! thanks!

i ended up turning it all back on since i got a sound bar, all these efforts to get DTS to play on my flat panel was for nothing lol
