[LIVE] How to setup hard (partitions) drive for easy upgrade?
#1
I was able to install XBMC Live without any major problems. Now, how do I setup hard drive (1TB) so I can upgrade XBMC in the future? I would like to have my media collection sort of separately so the XBMC upgrade does not touch it. I can reload XBMC if necessary as I am just playing with it.

I am Linux noob so easy instructions would be perfect.

Thanks.

just add the hard drive like you would to any system, partition (if desired), make filesystem(s), add to /etc/fstab and mount.

xbmc itself will never write anything to the hard drive that will be affected by an upgrade.

if you want instructions on how to do this, i'd recommend googling the ubuntu forums. here's an old example:

should be pretty straight-forward.

Thanks for reply. I have downloaded Ubuntu LiveCD and was able to create all partitions I needed. Then I installed XBMC on a small partition and mounted the other partition with media. Pretty much exactly as you wrote :-)
