[AppleTV] Broadcom Crystal HD Decoder Apple TV step-by-step installation guide
hi,
so you got rid of the following error on your AppleTV and crystalHD show up in XMBC?
ERR*:/Users/davilla/Documents/crystalhd-for-osx/trunk/crystalhd/driver/darwin/crystalhd_hw.c:1799: Firmware command T/O

If so, I"ll try to restore my appleTV. Thanks.

Kevin

I am going to put linux on my apple tv in the mean time. I really don't like the sluggishness of the UI

mng70 Wrote:Can I confirm what the rc.local file should contain. Here is mine

/sbin/turbo_atv_enabler.bin
/sbin/kextload -v /System/Library/Extensions/BroadcomCrystalHD.kext

When I look at the properties (using WINSCP) they are

Location /rmt/Sratch/private/etc
Size 96b
Group wheel[0]
Owner frontrow [501]
Permissions Owner has RW, Group has R, Others have R
Octal 0644
No checksum

If anything needs changing can someone kindly explain how to change it please? Big Grin

In the meantime I figured out that my rc.local file did not run due to a formatting error - most likely you also edit your file under Windows OS, too?

Then check out this post:

Jimmer Wrote:Do you have nano on your ATV? It's a must have! Then you can SSH in and create/edit scripts in a terminal window irregardless of your computer's OS.

Try SSHing in and issuing:

nano test

you should be launched into the editor and it will create automatically a new file called test. ctrl-x allows you to exit and prompts for save y/n. Pretty straightforward..

Jim

So you just need to copy and paste the commands into the rc.local file.

So let me get this straight.

If I install the Crystal HD hardware and drivers per:

http://www.blogythefox.co.uk/2010/01/09/...tallation/

just use the official nightlies instead of the ones cited on the above site.

Crystal HD should pop up as an option under render method no problem right? I just want to make sure.

Hey guys,

Got me a problem. Major, major stutter-ville. Even on low bitrate 720p.

Installed the card fine, no errors or anything. Broadcom HD card shows up just fine in XBMC.

When I run:

Code:
dmesg | grep -i crystal

Code:
BroadcomCrystalHD::start
BroadcomCrystalHD: Found HW and started driver SW.

When I run:

Code:
grep -i crystal /Users/frontrow/Library/Logs/xbmc.log

I am running the latest SVN which I think is 27917.

I just read a thread mentioning that startup issues could be to blame. So all I need to know is if that is still a problem in the latest builds. I am assuming so, I know, this is major alpha so just looking for a confirmation that this issue will likely be fixed as time goes on.

Thanks for all your hard work Wink

Hey davilla,

First few vids didn't seem to want to work but now I am getting about a 90% success rate. I suspect it has something to do with these "startup" issues you mentioned in some other threads.

Obviously being so alpha, I am not expecting it to be perfect. Keep pluggin' away mate, she's a pretty slick little setup now.

I'm playing 720P and 1080P videos off a network, certain videos are extremely jittery - especially ones from my camcorder. Other videos seem to take 10 - 20 seconds to "buffer"?

Thanks for the Crystal HD support! When it works it's fantastic!

UPDATE: seems like switching audio output from the default analog to digital improved playback?

Check your logs, they are easy to read, look for crystalhd.

Strange, after a reboot the Crystal HD got detected again.

At least I know what to look for.

I'm in the same boat here as TravisBell.

I spent all day today getting the crystal card installed and my atv/xbmc updated to the latest nightly. The crystal chip shows up and is set to my rendermethod. Some 1080p AVC1 videos play flawlessly while other 1080p (or lower!) AVC1 movies chug pretty bad.

I can't seem to find any rhyme or reason between the AVC1 .mkvs that play wonderfully and those that choke.

Where on the ATV does the log get stored? I'll post mine.

My apologies.

xbmc log:
http://pastebin.com/m25255f9a

this is quite lengthy. this includes numerous videos being played. the last 3 or 4 are the AVC1 files that chug.

720P MKV slows down on playback - first couple minutes everything is smooth, then things bog down:

Movie was played twice.

I'm still onyl see the XBMC Version 9.11 in the Launcher 3.2.2.

defaults write com.teamxbmc.xbmclauncher XBMCAdditionalDownloadPlistURLs -array http://www.sshcs.com/xbmc/Info.asp

did not helped anyway.

Could it be that this is temporarly offline? seems that the nighty builds are not available at this moment ..

Can someone help?

Why don't you use the official buildbots nightly?
