[AppleTV] Trouble with Broadcom Crystal HD playback on Apple TV?

duke748 Wrote:AppleTV - SVN R26558 - Crystal HD

Ok I have a problem streaming HD Files to the appleTV from my WHS - both are hard wired into a netgear adsl router. Not sure if this a network or XBMC issue

Basically any HD Video file stutters every second or so , see it flash up pausing and buffering.

Copied some files locally to the appleTV and it plays quite well with the odd stutter. Now that would make you assume my Network is at fault but ....

The strange thing is I copied it with the inbuilt file manager which gives me a transfer rate of 7802 Kb/s = 64Mbps ish ?, which should be enough unless my maths is screwed.

Plus the same files will stream fine on a popcorn hour though. Any ideas?

Somewhere after line 800 is the Wall-E example in xbmc.log

Wall-E MediaInfo
Xbmc.log

I'm also having this issue when streaming HD files from my WHS to my Apple TV with Crystal HD, running the latest nightly build.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am also having similar issues with the stuttering and also audio synch issues...

I am running XBMC SVN:26925 on appleTV 3.01 and Launcher 3.22 and here is my pastebin

On my mac mini, I am running the publicly available 9.11 Confluence version and the video plays flawlessly (non CrystalHD).

In the pastebin, I noticed line 24 --
7503872 DEBUG: FactoryCodec - Audio: passthrough - Failed

-- could this have anything to do w the synch issues?

Much thanks to davilla and team for all the hard work... and contribution on it's way..

I keep having these crazy slowdowns, followed up by speedups to keep audio and video synced. I'm using the latest Crystal HD driver and latest XBMC svn revision (and had the same problem every version before that).

This is my xbmc.log playing the movie The Hurt Locker (see http://pastebin.com/f219c032f for media info) : http://pastebin.com/f4bf89b0 . I used HDMI for both video and audio while watching this. The resolution of the Apple TV was set @ 1080p (60 Hz) during this viewing.

I had the same issue while watching a movie with a lower bitrate (see http://pastebin.com/fb50ab30 for media info). I alternated between S/PDIF and HDMI while watching this movie. The resolution of the Apple TV was set @ 1080p (60 Hz) and @ 720p (50Hz) during this viewing.

Changing sound and video options @ the config menu (I probably tried every possible combination) didn't make a difference.

I'm sure you guys will figure it out though (I hope this output + info helps). Smile

a little bug on my end about build 26936
it had an endless cycle of scanning and updating the library, tried stopping the scan and it froze the xbmc/atv
unplugged from wall
fired up xbmc after restart, endless cycle of scanning and updating again, disabled "scan at startup" and attempted to restart xbmc, again, froze the atv/xbmc
unplugged from wall
fired up xbmc and it's good again...

Also...
I get that stutter on 720p video after playing for a couple minutes, it'll stutter, try to catch up and be okay, then after a couple minutes it'll repeat

http://pastebin.com/f1ed1d9e9

line 405 is the library thing
line 910 on is the video sutter thing

Hmm.. maybe not.. slow down after x number of minutes.

btw in comparison with ion based computer, downscaling performance from 1080p to 720p is really good, broadcom makes really good piece of hardware

Will HD WMV be offloaded to the Crystal card under xbmc in the future?
I only tried some WMV HD samples, and the CPU hovered around 100% and stuttering occurred.
I guess it is not much requested, but if the Crystal card can support it, perhaps it can do the work?

I also get stuttering on 720p. I noticed under System Info that my memory is always between 90 and 95%. I haven't installed anything besides XBMC and Crystal HD drivers. Skin is Confluence. Is this normal? Related to stuttering?

normal, it's a bds unix system and that's how it works regarding memory management.
