[AppleTV] Trouble with Broadcom Crystal HD playback on Apple TV?

davilla Wrote:normal, it's a bds unix system and that's how it works regarding memory management.

Talking about memory, although with a previous build I had playback using the CrystalHD as renderer, I no longer have the option and dmesg now throws up the following:

http://pastebin.com/m23f98b2c

I've highlighted the section where it's looking in /Users/davilla/Documents and the subsequent memory error. This is with: Build r26957, ATV 3.0.1, Launcher 3.2.2 - Kextstat shows the kext is loaded, and xbmc.log shows the following when the video is played:

http://pastebin.com/m57d0260a

It says CrystalHD not found, but before this build there was no problem. Should I submit a trac ticket, or are you guys already on the problem?

I had the same problem with /Users/davilla/Documents in my dmesg. A reboot of the ATV fixed it for me. Dont't know why it is there for Huh

"sudo reboot", there's a small memleak in the kext, we are looking for it Wink

The kext is build with debug symbols, those happen to reference to my development box and tells me the file and line number in the file,

from the thread in the feature suggestions;

TeknoJnky Wrote:Here is some feedback from recent builds.

I don't have alot of HD content and have only been testing 2 bluray movies, kill bill vol 1, and dark knight. These are straight m2ts from the discs played locally from the atv.

until very recently, dark knight would sometimes play and audio worked but most times was jerky, and kill bill had never been smooth and audio hasn't worked at all in OSX (over hdmi, downmixing to stereo to tv), and in fact playing kill bill would kill audio completely until the atv was rebooted.

The last few days builds, dark knight has been much better although still some stuttering, but then the audio was out of time with the video.

Kill Bill also started playing more smoothly but still no audio, and afterwards audio is still dead until reboot.

Later this week I'll generate some clean debug logs and post them with whatever the current build is at the time.

log of r26973 playing back the dark knight (with audio offset) and kill bill vol 1 (with no audio during or after playback).

hi guys,

does anyone have a set of best practice settings?

in Video --> Settings I have:

Render Method: Broadcom CrystalHD (obviously!)
Use pixel buffer objects: Yes
Adjust display refresh rate to match video: No
Sync playback to display: Yes
A/V Sync method: Audio Clock
Allowed error in aspect ratio to minimize black bars: None

This seems to play somethings well (e.g. 1080p 9.0 GB MKV of Star Trek) and somethings not so well (eg 720p 1.1 MKV rips of shows like The Mentalist and Fringe off of Usenet)

Now why I'm having better results with the only piece of 1080p material I currently have, I can't say, but I'm wondering if anyone has a better set of settings than mine. I'd appreciate the heads up!

I'm on r27045 official, ATV OS 3.0.1, Launcher 3.2.2....

Jim

I am using the same settings streaming from my WHS via SMB share, and those are the best settings I have used.

Debug console shows (during Avatar 1080p bluray rip)
FreeMem approx 15000
FPS 24
CPU XBMC 85-90%

Would love someone to let me know if I am doing anything wrong and if my settings can be better, or if it is just an issue of the drivers being really new.
