Question  Acer Revo... Single or Dual Core? Post: #1
Acer Revo 3600:
single core processor
2GIG RAM
vista

or

Acer Revo 3610:
Duel core processor
2Gig RAM
Win7

I'm only after it to play both XBMC live via a SD boot... Playing both .AVI and .MKV

Will the difference in processor really make a difference? And will it make a difference to power consumption?

Single core works fine.

Processor makes minimal difference. Makes some difference if you want to run more complex skins (aeon and the like), but majority of skins are fine.

yeah running it as a "dedicated" XBMC box, the GPU will do most of the work thanks to VDPAU. Also, you really won't need 2GB for this box either, 1GB will most likely suffice for all your needs (XBMC was originally written to run on the old Xbox with 64MB of RAM, so its memory footprint is extremely efficient).

Are you sure?

The GPU will only get 256MB allocated if the system RAM is only 1GB - and I didn't think that was enough for 1080p?

1Gb is fine, you can either set it to auto or 512nb in the bios.

I have a reasonable tv library - i think it was 10k+ eps last time i checked and runs fine.

Be aware that you need a 3610 if you want a SPDIF out connection (I nearly missed this..). Picked up a new 3610 on e-bay myself for 190 Euro which arrived yesterday...

Running xbmc in itself wont be slower, however library updates and the like are much slower compared to installing it to the hd.
