[LIVE] Sound but no video through HDMI
#1
Hi guys,

I'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to XBMC so bear with me...

I just got an Acer AspireRevo 1600 and installed XBMC Live 9.04 using these guides:

http://lifehacker.com/5391308/build-a-si...-the-cheap
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=53888
http://devolblog.devolfamily.com/xbmc-on...revo-1600/

The install went fine, but I'm having some AV issues.

1) I have the Acer plugged into my receiver (which is plugged into the tv) via HDMI. I'm getting 5.1 sound, but not getting any video output -- though I do get video when I plug directly into the tv.

2) When the tv is tuned to the correct HDMI input (coming from the receiver, still no video), the sound stutters (2 secs sound, 4 secs silence), but plays correctly when the tv is tuned to the other empty HDMI input.

I spent the last few hours crawling the forums, but I'm out of ideas. Can anyone help?

Thanks a billion,
Nick

Hi there. What TV are you connecting to?

I just recently put together a new HTPC (using Ubuntu 9.10) and don't get video through HDMI to the TV. The weird thing is other HDMI devices, like a PS3 or the previous HTPC this new one is replacing, both work connected to the TV. And, when connecting the new HTPC to a different TV via HDMI (one that is smaller and cheaper) it works.

Do you by chance have a Panasonic TH-50PE700U or TH-50PZ700U [the TV's are the same just one is sold through Costco and one isn't]?

EDIT: Have you tried connecting directly to the TV and bypassing the receiver? Also, are there any firmware updates for your receiver?

No, I'm connected to an Olevia 237T. I decided to just order the Turtle Bay USB sound card so I can get optical out to my receiver. That will hopefully solve the issue.

why did you install 9.04 and not 9.11?

The How-To articles I used had links to an install packaged with 9.04, and I have no experience with Linux, so I didn't want to go the 9.11 route and not see any results.

I have a Revo 1600 as well and just got it a few days ago. I would install this ISO customized for the ION based units. Its simple to install and everything will be set up "out of the box" for you.
