Low Volume sometimes
#1
I have my Audio Output settings in XBMC set to 'Digital'

My audio output device and passthrough device are both set to iec958. However when playing a file that is not AC3 or DTS, the output volume is very very low.

How can I troubleshoot this, it's driving me crazy because when I then switch to an AC3 or DTS file, the sound is so loud!

Type in a terminal:
Code:
alsamixer
Make sure the volume is set to 100%, exit and save.
Code:
sudo alsactl store 0

Everything was already set to 100%.

Any other ideas?

I have this same problem. If you find a fix let me know. Non-AC3 content especially seems to play very low for me as well. I am also using alsamixer maxxed out to 100% stored, and IEC958 and digital. Using Camelot beta, latest SVN was too buggy for me so I rolled back.

My copy of ubuntu allows me to put the volume up to like 150% I don't know why XBMC is limited.
Use mythicalLibrarian to make a library out of your MythTV files. Leave the recording to MythTV and use XBMC as your library.

"iecset audio on" at terminal?

That somehow enabled my navigation sounds in the XBMC menus, which is good!

But the volume on non AC3/DTS sources is still low.

I could also live with a solution that would lower the volume AC3/DTS sources so that I don't blow my speakers and ears!

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Arif

Do you have downmix enabled or is it passing through? If you're downmixing there's an advanced setting to boost the output. Passthrough we clearly don't want to touch.

It's passing through.

Where is the advanced setting to boost the output?

Does the downmixing affect AC3/DTS sources in any way?

Thanks,

Arif

Doh!!!!!

Pressing + on the keyboard while watching the video with low sound increases the volume. Now I feel stupid!
