Karmix - and remote desktop - and xbmc
#1
how could I get it work?
(I can easily set it up, and connect to the server, but as soon as I start xbmc, it is frozen. If I close the connection, and start it again, I see changes, but it's still a still picture)

thanks

the only solution i found for that was to press "\" button twice (window mode, full screen mode)instead of disconnecting, you still won't see any movement but at least don't have to reconnect each time you press something

What are you using anyway to remotely control Ubuntu?

For my ubuntu server i use thee opensource freenx terminal server with the free nomachine freenx client.

https://launchpad.net/~freenx-team/+archive/ppa
http://www.nomachine.com/products.php

The advantages:

- great compression of all trafic, enabling fast remote desktops over the internet.
- creates new sessions (not logs into your full hd desktop) like you were logging into your computer with another username.
- Your session is "resumable" which means that the applications started from the session can be left running until the next remote login.
- you can even have kde envirinment remotely while you run xbmc in gnome

It is the best remote desktop for linux.
Always read the XBMC online-manual, FAQ and search the forum before posting.
Do not e-mail XBMC-Team members directly asking for support. Read/follow the forum rules.
For troubleshooting and bug reporting please make sure you read this first.

Hmmm, lets try that out. I could use Logmein but i think this is faster.

Thanks allot!

I get the following when trying to run xbmc in nxclient:

This will not let you control actual XBMC that is running on the TV but it is very powerful tool.
Running firefox (single app mode in nx) from home on my laptop was a big question mark for my IT dept Smile
