[LINUX] Can Zotac ION play sound through HDMI and optical out at the same time?
#1
Hi,

I'm just setting up XBMC for the first time with Ubuntu on a ZOTAC ION mini-itx mainboard. The TV is connected directly via HDMI but I also have a surround system that I want to connect via optical cable. What I would like to do is to be able to have stereo-sound via HDMI so that my TV can play it but also to have 5.1 (or whatever) sound fed to the surround decoder via optical cable.
This way I could watch SD content (like TV shows) and listen to the sound via the TV speakers and wouldn't have to power up the rest of the gear. For home cinema stuff with full surround sound I would like to make use of that though.

Is this possible? Which settings would I have to use?

I have to admit that I didn't/couldn't try it myself yet - I have sound via HDMI working but don't have a cable long enough to connect the board to the surround decoder.

Maybe someone of you has done this already and can assure me or point me in the right direction.

thanks,
jibe
