can´t play 1080p VDPAu not work??
#1
Hi,

first: sorry for my bad English. I hope i can explaine my problem.

I have installed Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic and XBMC on my HTPC

CPU: Intel 5200
Gra: Nvidia 9400 on Board
Nvidia driver Version: 195.30

Wenn i play my 720p mkv files (h264), the Cpu runs between 60 and 100%!!
1080p is not possible.
VDPAU is enabled in the XBMC Menu but i think with a cpu usage at 60 to 100%
VDPAU ist not really working correctly.
What is my mistake??

I can report i had the same issues! I reinstalled nvidia drivers (in fact the latest 195 beta) and installed them via nvidia install program (NOT ubuntu). I also recompiled xbmc. CPU usage should be below 10% with vdpau working!

Ok thx! I will try it tomorrow.
I think i must install the nvidia installer first? (I am a Linux noob)
sudo apt-get install Huh nvidia-installer?

I'd try sudo apt-get install nvidia-195-libvdpau or something like that, apt-cache search vdpau will make the right package show up.

I installed the 190.x driver, and it did not work for me, neither.
Core0 was running at 36%, Core1 was running at 95%, playback was slow and a lot of frames where dropped.
Just hit the o key and see what's after dc: - that's the decoder.
As it turned out, mine did not use VDPAU even if it was turned on... This is what solved my problem:
Code:
sudo aptitude install mplayer-nogui
sudo reboot
As it is described at the bottom of the page here.
After this, each core is running at 10-12% only, and playback is smooth.
