[XBOX] Ubuntu and original Xbox DVD Remote Kit and Dongle?
#1
I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 with latest xbmc build. I'm having problems trying to get the original xbox DVD remote to work. I've bought an usb adapter off ebay. I'm very new to linux but after typing lsusb in the terminal window - it only occasionally picks up the playback remote, but when I plug it into windows os, it picks it up everytime as an unrecognised device.

Any advice gratefully received.

Doesn't show anything about DVD Playback remote but occasionally using lsusb it does. It's just not consistent - no reason why one time it's displaying the remote the next it doesn't.

one of these

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1-5m-X-Box-to-USB-...439c5653ab

the strange thing is I did get it working once but due to problems with the graphics card, had to re-install ubuntu.

Can't get it to work since.

This is what mine looks like:
Code:
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 045e:0284 Microsoft Corp. Xbox DVD Playback Kit
Have you tried another one? Maybe the one you have is flakey. They're less than $10 on ebay. You also might want to unplug all your other USB devices to see if something is conflicting with it.

I've unplugged everything else apart from a usb keyboard & mouse. It's occasionally come up with XBox DVD Playback Kit but there is no reason why it works one minute and not the next. I thought it may be a problem with the adaptor but it is picked up in windows as an unrecognised device.

What is the easiest remote to setup XBMC in ubuntu.

sorry didn't answer that question. Yes I have blacklisted xpad.

What is the best remote I can use out of the box (as they say) without all this fuss.

xbox remote Tongue

think there is something wierd with either the dongle or the adapter. since it appears sometimes. if you can, try another adapter, since I have done 5 xbox dvd dongle -> usb and never had any problems with it, just config lirc and everything works fine.

I still use the dongle on my original xbox and it works fine. I only just bought the adaptor just over a week ago. It does seem to be hit 'n' miss. I'm not sure I really want to buy another, is there a better remote that works for XBMC Linux.
