Well, this is annoying, as all problems usually are. When I try to play HD movies XBMC (standalone) totally freeze up and I have to SSH into the system and kill the process. Sometimes it hangs even before I get any audio and video, sometimes it will start and play fine as long as I don't touch it, but if I stop or forward it will hang.
My TV shows are mostly HD content and do not seem to have this problem. Also, my SD movies play fine. All my HD content is on local disks, SD content is on NAS. Everything works fine if I start them from the "Files" menu instead of the library.
I'm using the latest SVN build on karmic, but I tried going back to the latest stable version (december something). I tried different skins, cleaning the library, removing the HD movies source and adding it again.
If needed I'll tell you more about my system, and also provide some log files.
Thanks.

iirc the 7100 does not support vdpau, needs to be 8x series or higher.
try changing your renderer to software.
also, post your full debug log there may be other relevant bits.

Seems like this is unsolvable.
A small update:
Yesterday I tried playing a 1080p movie with software rendering. It didn't go too well. My dual cores went through the roof. It was able to play, but it was very jerky. Mind you, this was started through the Files menu, not Library. So I thought I would give VDPAU another go, and presto, the stress on the CPU was reduced significantly. The playback was still not perfect, so I'll be buying a new graphic card soon. For 720p it works great though.
But, even 720p (no matter how great it works now) movies crashes when started from the Library. 720p TV Shows still work fine. It's so weird.

So, no one wants to touch this? No obvious errors in my logs?
Btw, I borrowed a 9400GT graphics card and pressing "o" now shows that VDPAU is active, and my CPU hardly does anything at all. Still, Library will freeze all playback.

I've almost found the answer. Here's what I've done:
- Removed my movies source, cleaned the library
- Moved a couple of 720p movies from my internal disk to my NSA
- Added the NSA disk as source and updated library
Library mode works again, so I'm wondering what actually caused this?
Is my internal disk going bad? - In that case, why did everything play through the Files menu?
Is there one movie causing havoc for the whole library? - I'm moving a few movies at a time over to the NSA and after each move I check if the library still works.
Should I've used another FS? - Right now the disk is NTFS because it was used in a Windows machine.
