[LINUX] Which infrared receiver?
#1
Currently I use an homebrew serial infrared receiver http://www.lirc.org/receivers.html that work great with my honkyo remote.
Now I want to move to a new system (based on Asus AT3N7A-I) so no more serial port for my beloved receiver.
I know that there's MCE, ecc. ecc. but I want to use the old remote as I ever did so I want to know if I can use MCE or something else that use USB.
Thanks

If you have a working serial receiver you are happy with, why not get a usb to serial adaptor. You can pick them up pretty cheap....

If you want to avoid the hassle of using an serial to USB adapter get one of these.

I've just bought one and managed to get it working perfectly with XBMC, Lirc and a SpeedLink SL-6399 remote. It should work with any remote, you just need to use irrecord to create the correct Lircd.conf file for your remote.

Or you could also pick up one of the cheap RC6 MCE remotes from the same seller which will work out of the box with Lirc and XBMC as an MCE remote.

Thanks for the advice.
Just for note: usb to serial adaptor isn't a choice because lirc doesn't support it ( http://www.lirc.org/faq.html )

No, this won't work. But there is a project working on a dedicated USB transceiver. Using an Irman with USB adapter should work though.
Other options in case I can't find one here (italy)
