I usually rip (with DVDFab) and transcode (with Handbrake) my DVD / BD movies into an MKV file containing H.264 video, one or more sound tracks (AC3, AAC) and zero or more subtitle tracks (SUB). These files play perfectly on VLC under Windows, and I can freely switch between all the sound and subtitle tracks without any issues.
For my HTPC I have XBMC 9.11 on Windows XP. With XBMC, sometimes when I play one of my MKV movies I can see the whole thing with subtitles and it works perfectly. Sometimes the subtitle displayed on the screen gets stuck for several minutes (10, 20, whatever), and then resynchronizes with the movie. Some times subtitles will only show up for the first 5 minutes in the movie, then get stuck and never work properly again until the end of the movie.
Is this a known issue? If not, can I provide more information for better diagnosis? Are there any recommended procedures to make this work in a consistent and correct manner?
