[LINUX] Tips for remotes that you can buy that works out-of-the-box?
#1
I have been searching allover for help with this but I cant seem to find a decent answer, can anyone tell me of one of more remotes that work directly out-of-the-box in the newest xbmc live?

And hopefully a remote that you can buy worldwide or such.

All help very appreciated! Thanx!

The problem is normally the receiver. Most remotes seem to be more or less the same.
I have an original MS MCE remote which is very good, but not available anymore.

The only one I can find available in sweden is Philips RC197. It works perfectly.
I also saw a post about sony vaio IR receiver but I cannot find it here.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6880121003 is the one I'm buying. Reading the reviews there are a few people who specifically bought it for XBMC.

I have an ASRock 330 without the built in IR so I purchased the following remote

http://pccyber.com/?v=product&i=REMOTE-MS-MG-GP-IR01BK

Not all the keys worked the way I liked with the beta builds of XBMC but since the final build of 9.11 was released it worked right out of the box. I only really bought the remote for the IR receiver. I use a Harmony 550 with this receiver and it works very well. The only tweak I did was for the wake from suspend to enable USB0.

FYI - I did very little research on whether or not the remote would work or not - just ran with scissors ;-)

I can confirm this.

This remote worked right out of the box on my Revo 1600 running Live Camelot. The receiver works better than any other I've used, able to even bring up the right-click context menu.

Logitech Harmony also works beautifully with the included receiver.

I have the dinovo mini.
I love it with these exceptions:
- the touchpad sucks big time, mousing is nearly impossible
- the cursor keys are not registering the key presses properly (the down direction is the worst, you need to aim - literally)
- No separate ESC key (you need to press FN+TAB to get ESC).
- No function keys (F1-F12).
- No Home/End keys.
- No fast forward/rewind keys.
- Mouse buttons could have been designed better.
- No mouse wheel.

does anyone know if this: http://www.hfx.se/se/index.php?page=shop...&Itemid=54 should work?

It seems like it's the same remote but with another branding.

I confirm it too. The remote works out of the box. However, to get most of its buttons fully used, you should install IR Server Suite.

This remote is great

I got the same one, but unfortunately it doesn't work at all for me. I believe I'm running the latest 9.11 build.

Do I need to manually install lirc, does anybody know?

Found some advice in another thread that suggested moving the IR receiver.

That did the trick! Works like a charm now.
