[LINUX] Beginner seeking help

Hey everyone - beginner seeking help ...

Would like to make a HTPC with ION motherboard for example. Zotac IONITX-G-E or something similar.

've Read a lot of threads about this, but are left with some questions.

Want to use this HTPC as a server too. It will handle these tasks XBMC, NZB download, stream music to MediaPlayer, Samba file sharing and maybe torrent.

Are almost completely unfamiliar with linux, but actually want to use XBMC Live. However, as I see it a couple of challenges in this context.

All my data is on NTFS drives, and last time I tried myself with Ubuntu, I could not get it to work correctly. Does XBMC Live support NTFS?

Regarding hard drive (system disk) there are a few questions about performance.

Booting directly from USB - it can handle 1080i playback?
(the idea was to run the server through W7 and XBMC on USB stick. know it causes problems with samba sharing)

Is there any advantage to choose rather than SATA SSD - Where now I have to run it more as a server and not only XBMC.

Hope there is someone who will help with some clarification and guidance.

Translatet whit google! Sorry!
