Adding new XBMC PPA to sources.list breaks Update Manager
#1
Hi,

I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 and noticed a couple of days ago that I didn't have the latest official XBMC 9.11 build installed. Instead, I had a different version (probably a beta or RC) that was built some time in November.

It turned out that the XBMC PPA that was located in /etc/apt/sources.list was incorrect. I went here and found out that I should instead be using this PPA:

Quote:deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/ppa/ubuntu hardy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/ppa/ubuntu hardy main

However, adding these lines will cause the Update Manager in Ubuntu to fail with the following error message:

Quote:Could not calculate the upgrade

A unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:
'E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.'

I've actually managed to remove the previous version of XBMC and install the latest official version from the correct PPA but the Update Manager will remain broken until I remove the XBMC PPA.

I then tried to perform sudo aptitude safe-upgrade which returned this:

Quote:Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Reading extended state information
Initializing package states... Done
Building tag database... Done
The following packages have been automatically kept back:
perl perl-modules
The following packages have been kept back:
perl-base
0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 3 not upgraded.
Need to get 0B of archives. After unpacking 0B will be used.
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done

Building tag database... Done

I also tried to install the upgrades in Synaptic without success.

Is there any solution for these problems?
