[LINUX] Ubuntu 9.11 desktop display resolution & Digital Audio over HDMI
#1
After hours of headache I FINALLY managed to get the Nvidia drivers installed on my Acer Revo 1600. The lack of a /cdrom/ proved to be a challenge for awhile before I edit the sources.list file to comment out that line.

Now my Ubuntu desktop opens 800x600 I click the "Display Settings" icon in the top status bar and get a message about the propietary drivers, so YES I agree and set my display resolution to 1920x1080. Click Apply, do you want to keep? YES...all looks good so I save to the X file (whatever that means) and up pops an error message about being unable to create the x file config backup, sorry I can't recall precisely.

problem is upon reboot I'm back to 800x600? any ideas?

I could hear sound when XBMC was set to analog, downmix....so I changed that to digital, HDMI, don't downmix...failed to hear and rec'd an error message about unable to load device

so I researched and ran a script I found here

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6589810

following these steps
Quote:1. download the script and save it somewhere
2. cd <your-download-dir>
3. tar xvf AlsaUpgrade-1.0.22.1-2.tar
4. sudo ./AlsaUpgrade-1.0.22.1-2.sh -d
5. sudo ./AlsaUpgrade-1.0.22.1-2.sh -c
6. sudo ./AlsaUpgrade-1.0.22.1-2.sh -i
7. sudo shutdown -r 0

still no audio, same error message

Any more ideas?
