Starting Ubuntu with monitor/flatscreen/TV turned off results in blank screen
#1
I had a problem with Ubuntu 9.10 - if I started my HTPC before I turned the HDTV/LCD/Flatscreen on and turned the monitor on after I booted I'd get a flat screen.

I could VNC in (output was redirected to VGA port - I used DVI -> HDMI cable). So I figured out how to force output to the DVI port (NVIDIA MSI 8400GS) and also lock the resolution to 1920x1080.

I hope someone finds this useful it took me hours of messing with NVIDIA settings, EDID, mode settings and xorg.conf.

See here for how I did it.

Thanks to people on this forum too, I hope I can give something back for all the help I get from here!
