Dedicated HTPC, any reason not to use Live
#1
Sooner than later I have to wipe W7(RC) off my HTPC...I only use my HTPC for XBMC. If my computer is just an HTPC and don't use or need the OS, is Live the way to go?

If all you're going to do is use XBMC, then yes, it is a very good solution.

What I like is that it acts as a XBMC appliance. Windows is great as a desktop, but leaves a lot to be desired when you want it to do just one thing seamlessly. With XBMCLive you can use lower power(&cost) hardware and still get full HD capability.

Note: If you're using XBMCLive and want full 1080p make sure you are using a Nvidia video chipset that supports VDPAU. Otherwise the video processing is done in the CPU which means more power, greater chance of video problems, etc.

It's a very good solution, but there seems to be one bug as far as I know:

Uhm, I run 9.11 and the SVN Installer works like a charm. No problems at all.
Kodi v17 "Krypton" Beta 6 running on Amazon Fire TV (2014) with FLIRC receiver.

The SVN Installer is only needed if you want to be on the (bloody) cutting edge of what is in development. For most users it isn't needed, nor is it desirable from a WAF factor.

I run Live directly from USB (Not install Live to HD), use Installer to installed Apple Movie Trailer and YouTube, no problem here.
