low spec version of xbmc
#1
I want to set up a low spec PC purely for playing MP3`s.
I would also like to base it around XBMC as this is now missus friendly Smile .

The PC I have is a PIII 733 with 468MB of ram and on-board video and sound.
I've tried the live versions, but they wont run. ( not sure why )

Is there any older versions of XBMC that could run on a low spec machine like above.

any info or idea`s much appreciated.

Thanks

Buy an nVidia card and you're good to go.

Thanks for the links. but..... I'm not interested in playing movies, I just want it to play mp3's.

Is it the onboard graphics controller that is stopping the live discs from running ? If so what is the minimum spec graphics card that xbmc requires ?

Thanks

There's no reason it won't run on that rig unless your graphics card is somehow incapable of running xbmc. As cbrunhaver mentioned, it's an easy fix if that's the case.

What chipset is the onboard graphics card?

You can likely find an old Nvidia/ATI laying around second hand for $5 in a bin somewhere that will work.

The board is an AOpen MX3W PRO-E which has an intel 810e chipset.
As far as I can find out only supports up to Ogl 1.1.
From the replies and links it seems xbmc need at least Ogl 1.3.
I take it, that is for the graphical front end, I guess that there was no older version of XBMC that doesnt require Ogl 1.3

Looks like im looking for a PCI Ogl 1.3 card then Smile

Thanks for the info guys Smile
