My system has two SATA-300 disks attached. Maybe that's related to the problem, like the harddisk using too much power or something like that.

One of the things the developers have talked about implementing is the ability to use XBMC as a PVR frontend. Due to the popularity of the ION platform this issue will have to be resolved for that feature to work properly, and I have full confidence that the developers will have it resolved by then.

Since then I've seen a few posts like you mention about problems with the scaler going from 720p to 1080p or vice versa (i.e. you have a 720 source and a 1080 resolution or the opposite, and XBMC has to scale it up or down to accommodate).
What I've found is that on 720p files that exhibit this problem, if I change the XBMC settings to output at 720p instead of 1080p, it will play flawlessly. Then of course I have to change it back to 1080p when I watch Bluray rips, so it's quite annoying, but it does at least minimize the issues.

I cant really risk compiling since its the family tv system. Stables I can arrange to put in place! I await the next stable build with interest. But if you play 1080 24 fps videos with no 1920x1080_24 mode available it will cause sever judder because it has to be played on 50Hz.
Meantime does ANYONE know how to block one specific mode from being picked up when starting up a box. The edid reports that 1920x1080_24 is available I'd like to block that so the system only switches between 50 and 60hz since 60hz doesnt show up glitches (I imagine the its flywheel effect that it has more frefreshes to play with)
I've tried modelines and other options but I always end up loosing all edid modes or having 24hz available. The only way around that at present is switching off the auto set refresh rate and forcing 60 / 50 hz depending on the material.
