Force resolution refresh rate
#1
Hi All,

I have been googling and reading lots over the last while to try and solve a problem I am having with forcing a refresh rate.

Basically, I have an Asrock330HT running latest stable on Ubuntu 9.10.

Everything works fine when I connect the Asrock directly to the TV in question. However, for various reasons, I do not want to connect the asrock directly to the TV, I need to send it through a matrix switcher and a HDMI over CAT5 converter.

When I do, I get an error on the TV saying "Mode Not Supported". From reading through the various posts on this site and the web, I have gatherered that either the CAT5 mux or the matrix is incorrectly sending out HDMI hand-shake signals etc....

I suspect that for one reason or another the TV is expecting 50hz refresh at 1080p, but instead it is recieving 60hz at 1080p (I believe this is a US / Euro difference in refresh rates?).

Anyway, to try to work around this I need to configure my Asrock to put out a signal at 50hz rather than 60hz. From looking at my xorg log, I see the following:

Quote:(II) Mar 14 21:16:02 NVIDIA(0): Assigned Display Device: DFP-0
(==) Mar 14 21:16:02 NVIDIA(0):
(==) Mar 14 21:16:02 NVIDIA(0): No modes were requested; the default mode "nvidia-auto-select"
(==) Mar 14 21:16:02 NVIDIA(0): will be used as the requested mode.
(==) Mar 14 21:16:02 NVIDIA(0):
(II) Mar 14 21:16:02 NVIDIA(0): Validated modes:
(II) Mar 14 21:16:02 NVIDIA(0): "nvidia-auto-select"
(II) Mar 14 21:16:02 NVIDIA(0): Virtual screen size determined to be 1920 x 1080
(WW) Mar 14 21:16:02 NVIDIA(0): PX@ (DFP-0)'s EDID does not contain a maximum image size;
(WW) Mar 14 21:16:02 NVIDIA(0): cannot compute DPI from PX@ (DFP-0)'s EDID.
(==) Mar 14 21:16:02 NVIDIA(0): DPI set to (75, 75); computed from built-in default

My reading of this is that it cannot figure out something to do with the display device and is using the auto-select profile from nvidia. This profile is probably reading some info from either the matrix switch or the CAT5 and one or other of these is saying 60hz instead of 50hz.

What I would like to do is figure out how to exit my Xorg.conf or whatever to add in a default profile for the display that uses 1080p and 50hz!

If anyone can offer suggestions or maybe tell me if I am on the right track, that would be really helpful!!

Thanks a mil,
Jab
