AppleTV and DVD ISO load time
#46
Thanks for posting the ticket. I never posted one.

I have managed to reduce the ISO load time to 20 secs and assumed it was something I will live with. As you said in your ticket its only the forst time it loads anyway.

I look forward to see if there is a fix.

Was this ever resolved, looking at the ticket, it hasn't!? experiencing similar problems here, will post a clean log soon.

So if I rip a DVD using DVDShrink, to Video_TS files/folders the DVD starts fine, but if I load a rip as an ISO, takes 15/20mins before it starts playing.
----

Here is an example.

I ripped the same DVD using DVDShrink, and outputted it 2 ways.

1st way was to Video_TS files/Folders, (See around the time of 23.50 for the playing of the files.
2nd way was to a ISO file, (see around the time of 00:14 for playing of the ISO)

Here is the log file : http://xbmc.pastebin.com/WacPykxn

All files are located on a Windows SMB share. And DVDShrink said the DVD didn't have any CSS encryption.

any ideas ?

I have the same problem here. Where it's trying to buffer the entire ISO file for whatever reason.

I have a DVD ISO with full menus and I am trying to read it over WIFI on my ATV. Before reading up on it on the forum I decided XBMC wasn't able to read this format of file.

I waited a few minutes and assumed the ATV had locked up. Looks like I needed to wait a lot longer.

I'm going to try copying the ISO to the hard drive locally. If that is slow, I'll try dumping it out to a folder with individual VOB and run it that way.

Hi ,

i'm using the xbmc darma beta 2 on my atv (linux). I noticed that when playing my movies (iso and hd using crystal bcm 700015) every 5 minutes or so the playing stall for a short monent and then continues. It is watchable, but becomes annoying . I've tried several video settings but I cannot seem to solve it. The movies are located on an ext3 usb hard drive connected to the atv.

(Also I have bluetooth and I have samba server and netatalk enabled on this drive, but I cannot see any issues directly as a consequense of this. Also I have a cdrom connected to the system)

Does anybody has a clue what can be the cause of this short stutter every few minutes and how I could solve this?

the processor load and such seem normal.

With regards,

Jan Faber

watch top and see if any other process jumps in when the stall happens.

This is what I can find in the log at the moment the hickup is manifesting the
following is written to the log file (tail -100f on log).

Does anybody know what this means? Davilla: the top does not give anything heavy. xbmc.bin is the
one on top and sometimes atvclient is poping up. The log lines above are written everytime the hickup is present, so it must give some info on the problem?

Thanks for your response and help by the way.

If somebody knows what is means and what I can do?

Hi , Since it looked like alsa issue, I upgraded to driver ver 23 instead of 19 AND I disabled (muted) the digital output of my sound since I use only analog. One of both fixed it for me for now..I think. Lets wait and see Smile

For HD and dvd still no complete success (absolutely better I think)

Hi,

I tried everything on my atv linux to solve this, but I have no clue anymore.
I have updated all drivers and such to the most recent (alsa, crystal, nvidia etc).

Every few minutes my xbmc.log gives the following output.

WARNING: CALSADirectSound::GetSpace - get space failed. err: -32 (Gebroken pijp)

Gebroken pijp = broken pipe.

At this mpment audio and video freeze for a fraction of a second and then resumes. Since it happens a lot (during both hd with crystal support and with normal libmpeg) it is very annoying. Changing settings in xbmc seem to have no effect, but I of course do not know that for sure.

Is there some xorg setting or such that can cause this? Anyone having the same issue?

upgrading the drivers seemed to have some influence but did not solve it.

With regards ,

Jan

JPDeckers Wrote:I searched and didn't find a raised ticket, so I opened ticket #9074

Installed xbmc darma beta 3 on my ATVs yesterday, and it looks like it even got worse, tailing the xbmc.log shows it takes 90 secs/VOB to find the keys (which are always 00:00:00, as no CSS encryption). All ISO's are stored on a NAS, accessed via SMB.

Don't know if dvdplayer lib has changed, or if this is just imagination, but as I mentioned in the ticket the delay was anything between 20s and 3 minutes , but now it's more like 10 to 20 minutes... Sad

I'm thinking about writing a shell-script to pre-generate the .dvdcss files...
