Longtime fan of XBMC...have 4 xboxs still in use because of it!! That said I have a 1080P tv now and have gone through almost every settop box out and just cant live with the menu and lack of features. XBMC has me spoiled Sad Anyway I have spent alot of time catching up on here and see no set top box can be modded to xbmc and no other instant on hardware will run it. So on a budget what are my options? Are the new SD drives worth it? How low of a start up time are you guys getting with HTPCs that use them, Windows based or Linux!

Has XBMC looked into custom hardware to run XBMC? I have been in this since xbox 1 was first modded and I know there is a HUGE following!

How much would you pay? If it was upgradable to the latest XBMC and future XBMC I would def. pay up to $300 for it. Or is this an issue because of licensed codec?

Its not a set-top box, however, your best bet might be something like an Acer Aspire Revo - they're small and can be hidden in behind your existing tv hardware - and they'll run the existing and future versions of XBMC with no problem at all.

Another advantage over your current xbox setup is the fact that you can actually play HD content without it seeming like the xbox is going to explode...

Newegg has one for $199 and for that you're getting a fully featured computer...

Im running the latest ubuntu server (karmic) with blackbox on an athlon X2 4800 with a geforce 210 card and 2Gb ram. Way under $300 these days (I bought it 2 years ago for around that).
My boot time is around 20 seconds excluding disk checks. I think there is a bug right now because fsck runs every time for some reason but once that finishes its like greased lightning.

And if you want to know how to put XBMCLive onto the thing - there's an excellent guide on lifehacker.com

Its based of a couple of guides on these forums, but I found this version easier to follow, for what its worth...

Its an excellent system, and basically runs silently while displaying 1080p video. Now all you need is the bandwidth to download tons of 1080p video... Smile
