When selecting "Play from here", the whole current list is added to the playlist and playing starts from the currently selected item, which seems a strange behaviour to me.

I would have expected only the items from the current one till the end of the list to be added to the playlist.

Is this an expected behaviour or should it be patched?

It's expected behaviour. The idea being that if you screwed up you can just go back a couple items.
