Low FPS / CDVDPlayerAudio:: Discontinuity
#1
Hello,

I have a problem with XBMC lately, it became simply impossible to watch any video.

During playback, I have 24FPS at the beginning (which is good) but it drops from times to times to 22 and 23, the video is not really affected but the sound saturates for a short time.
As long as the movie is playing, the problem occurs more and more and more and more frames are dropped, the FPS drops to 17/18, and about 10 or 15 minutes after the beginning, my average FPS is 10, the CPU usage is > 90% and the sound is saturated all the time.

In the log, the episode played was 720p, but the same problem occurs with SD and 1080p content.

I noticed that during playback in the DEBUG log, I have a lot of
DEBUG: CDVDPlayerAudio:: Discontinuity - was:572016950.651096, should be:571974308.916308, error:-42641.734788

It was working well a few weeks ago, and I don't remember changing anything, except that I added a lot of content to the library.

I was running XBMC 9.11 on Win7 x86, I tried updating to the last nightly build, it didn't change anything.
The computer is a Dell Inspiron 1720 with a C2D T7500, 4GB DDR and a GeForce M8600GT.
I also tried changing the Playback Render Method in the settings, it didn't help either.

I also noticed that even during the menus, it's not running as smoothly as it used to. I have 60FPS when idle, but I drop at 20 every time I do something.

Here is a link to the log during the playback of the file:
http://pastebin.com/CMkbB7Sz
(I removed approximatively 75% of the CDVDPlayerAudio:: Discontinuity lines because I couldn't upload it all on pastebin.com)

I also noticed that when XBMC starts, I have the following error:
14:55:35 T:2516 M:1041494016 ERROR: Win32DllLoader::Load: Unable to load special://xbmc/system/players/dvdplayer/bcmDIL.dll (126)

Could it be linked?

Thank you!

Wow, that is disappointing that nobody has replied to you. You were pretty helpful with all the information too.

I myself am seeing a similar problem, but it has been ever since I upgraded my system to pre 10.05 or whatever.

Anyway, should you fail to get a response, it is sometimes a good idea to *bump* the post. Consider it *bumped* for you.

I'll stand in the line also with this problem in Linux and I'll do another bump.
Meanwhile I suggest you should place bug report.

Cheers...

I am having a similar problem running 10.04 with a SVN version (xbcmfreak-10.08-svn31495-lucid1)

On a few shows, the video pauses and 'buffering' is shown on the screen. I am streaming from WHS via gigabit. HD content plays fine in general, however .avi dvd-quality content doesn't play. (that should stream just fine)

the avi's may be "invalid" in that sence that they are not interleaved. These requires a shitload of seeking around in the file to play and often play very badly.
Always read the XBMC online-manual, FAQ and search the forum before posting.
Do not e-mail XBMC-Team members directly asking for support. Read/follow the forum rules.
For troubleshooting and bug reporting please make sure you read this first.

Just in case anyone has this problem still, The drive that had the particular content that didn't play correctly was slow due to a very cheap PCI sata card.

I just didn't know because I was behind WHS and didn't know how to check what drive was even being used. I replaced it with a nicer one and haven't had this problem since.

Also having this exact problem. rebump.

I should also note there appear to be 5+ other threads with the same "CDVDPlayerAudio:: Discontinuity" issue, an no apparently resolution. I don't know if there is even a bug open for it.

I get this issue as well, usually halfway through a movie. I'm running SVN XBMC on Ubuntu, it's been happening for about a month. I highly doubt it has anything to do with the type of movie, I can reproduce this with MPG's, AVI's, MKV, anything really, HD or SD. It doesn't happen in the same spot every time. I can also watch a short movie, let it loop, and it will crash the second time watching it, not the first. I get this over and over until it grinds XBMC to a halt.
