how do i have to name my external SRT files to see the nice subtitle flag in Alaska?

right now i have

Star Trek (2009) [bluray.1080p.dts-6ch].mkv
Star Trek (2009) [bluray.1080p.dts-6ch].english.srt


and nothing shows up...

Nothing to do with the naming; it's from XBMC scanning your files/NFO's.

is there a way to have the skin check if a file exist? can it do that?

Hardware: Revo 3610 + SSD - Harmony 700 Remote
