Build errors

hi
i'm running visual studio.net 2003 and xdk 5849
i downloaded the rared 1.1 source package and that compiled ok as far as i can tell, didn't actually try it yet.

i then installed wincvs and got the latest source, now when i try and build this i get the folowing errors.
d:\cvs\xbmc\guilib\common\xbfont.h(49) : fatal error c1083: cannot open include file: 'xbresource.h': no such file or directory
guiramcontrol.cpp
i get this same error about xbresource.h for loads of files
project : warning prj0018 : the following environment variables were not found:
$(xdk)
for each project.
any ideas why this variable isn't set? it must be set in the other project because that built ok
