vdpau ubuntu 9.1 help
#1
I am attempting to switch over to linux once again to utilize VDPAU. I have done ultiple searches but cannot seem to find a tutorial on getting this set up correctly. I have read about disabling desktop effects, enabled the VDPAU in XBMC and have the 195 driver for my 8400 gs vid card. My playback of 1080p is stuttering top say the least with high cpu and low gpu usage.

what are the steps for getting VDPAU running smoohtly?

thanks

Hi there

anything in your log?

from a terminal prompt that's in ~.xbmc/temp/xbmc.log

I've grabbed this from an older post

Quote:(1) Activate Debug logging in xbmc
(2) find 'unable to get handle to libvdpau' in xbmc.log
(3) sudo apt-get install nvidia-180-libvdpau

Check the first 2 and then follow the third to see if that fixes things.

Thumbs Up
after reading over your reply I notice that it reverts to nvidia-180-libvdpau, I opened synaptic and looked at my nividia drivers and the 195 was not the libpau version. I installed the stand alone package for libpau. Now it works, smooth 1080p video, low cpu. Cool

on a side note, when looking at the output osd (pressed o on keyboard), where can I find out how to decipher this data and it's rellavence to performance?
