Any key disadvantages to using a linux based pc rather than live install??
#1
As my media pc is low powered, it would be useful to leave on 24/7 and make use of it as a downloader, or remotely access it when away from home... rather than leaving my power hungry windows home server on all the time...

My only thoughts on achieving this would be to install a full blown OS on my system, but due to lack of stable hardware acceleraiton in windows, linux would be the only route to take... so wondered if I did this, would I loose any functionality or run into any problems that dont exist with the live install?

ANy suggestions??

Live is linux based. You mean linux/ubuntu desktop.

If you have 2Gb memory there is no disadvantage. The boot will just be a few seconds slower.
You can also add a desktop to live. I am running a desktop remotly in the background while xbmc is playing on the TV.

Please note that gnome seem to cause problems with usb mounting in 9.11 Karmic.
