Make things easy for yourself. Use the default skin, confluence, whilst you set things up and become familiar with things.
Once you have sorted that, then try other things. No point in trying to run if you cant walk....

If you're using PC/Mac/Linux instead of an xbox, select the video you want while in file view, and hit 'c'. This brings up the context menu. Then the way I added videos (I didn't want automated) was to first select 'set content'. This pretty much tells the computer what kind of content it is (TV/Movie/Music Video) and therefore what scraper to use. Hit done. Then go back into the context menu and select 'Movie Information' or 'TV show information' depending on what kind of content you set it as. That will cause it to scan using the scraper you chose in the previous setting to find that movie and it's information.
A box will pop up with the selected title of your movie, as well as the year it was released. Some titles like 'Twilight' will have several different titles pop up due to the popularity of the name. Choose the movie that is correct for your video, and then the scraper will grab all it's relevant information. Once it is done all the info the scraper gathered will pop up and you can change thumbnails and fanart. The video has now been added to your library.
I'm new at this too, but I hope this helps.
