[LINUX] Manually play/add DVD (disc)
#1
Question
Hi,

I've been browsing around in the forums and wiki's for a day now, but I'm unable to find a little thing I want to do with xbmc.

How do I manually kick off my DVD-player? I added the disc as a video-source: "udf://dev/sr0". But if I 'Enter' it, it will try to open a directory structure. I can manually click to the menu and select "play DVD", This of course does the trick.

Is there a way to change the default behaviour for this item? (as in set it to Play DVD rather than "Open the directory")

UPDATE: I just figured out that by pressing the Play button on my remote rather than the OK button, it will play the DVD. I still wonder if my initial question is possible nonetheless. (though it seems like a simple workaround of course)

I don't believe its possible to force "select" to play the disc from files view directly from the source listing. Honestly, that's not its purpose. You're at files view, who's purpose is to browse a file system. Thus, it's browsing the disc filesystem. Now, if I remember correctly, there's a Play Disc item on the context menu. Or in Settings -> Video, someplace, is an option to play DVD's automatically.
Always read the XBMC online-manual, FAQ and search the forum before posting.
Do not e-mail XBMC-Team members directly asking for support. Read/follow the forum rules.

Thanks for the quick reply.

You're right on both. I can either go through the context menu, or just click the Play button on my remote (rather than the OK button). I disabled the autoplay as I don't want that functionality.

Sorry to hear that it's not possible to change the default setting for this. But oh well. The Play button is a more than workable work-around. Now let's just hope my girlfriend also approves ;-)
