Glossy overlay

Hi team.

I have no idea bout skinning but my question relates to a them I see quite often.

A glossy reflective sort of overlay often applied to thumbs etc.

I wish to reproduce this for some work I am doing, (not skin related)

Could someone point me to a knowledge article of some kind?

Your potential usage is a little vague... but I think I understand what you're after.

Most folks use Photoshop or Gimp... you need to create multiple layers (one layer for your image) and another layer for you 'gloss' effect (on top)

The gloss is achieved my making a shape that resembles a reflection/shine (usually an arc shape), then setting the layer transparency to about 40% (so that the shine lets some of the underlying image show through)

It's a very simple thing to do, tonnes of tutorials on the web. Try googling for 'glossy buttons photoshop' to get an impression of how it's done.

I'm a new skinner myself, but I think I know what you're referring to.

As an example, if you're looking for a glossy overlay on album art, remember that you have to specify a fixed size (don't use auto) for your album art.

From here, make sure it's always in a fix x, y position, and then create another semi-transparent glossy picture of the same size as declared for your album art, and lay it directly over it.

For some cool effects, make it fade in/out.
