New H55 Motherboard Or Not ?
#1
I just sourced a D-Vine MCE-301 Case and i want to do a modern build. Can i use the new Asus offerings Asus P7H55D-M EVO or Asus P7H55D-M PRO with the Core i3 540 Chip. My goal is for perfect Bluray playback from disk and MKV Files Has the 24p problem been sorted yet!

Also what would be the recommended platform for a nice clean setup of XBMC Linux Or Windows Mainly so i can have the system boot straight into XBMC on startup smoothly. Huh

Here is a good thread to read:

Just as a note: on no platform can XBMC play Blu Ray disks. We all rip Blu Rays to hard drives to play them in XBMC.

But the 24p problem has been fixed for a while in Linux:

Hi im getting a bit confused linux is the prefered platform for xbmc but trying to find a motherboard is tricky, with everything changing over to the i core processors.

The recommended boards for a linux platform, are unavailable e.g 9400/9300 i need a matx board for my case and low heat, due to being a D-vine 301 case.

My goal is:

A stand alone XBMC Setup mainly for MKV 1080P/720P Movie playback.

Iv noticed the Nvidia GT220 is a recomended graphics card. Can anyone recommend a modern matx board with full compatability under a linux install of xbmc also is there any way of getting DTS Sound through optical spdif with linux yet ? any help/recomendations would be great. Thanks. Eek

Im using a gigabyte mATX motherboard with an AMD 4850e processor and a geforce GT220, DTS works through HDMI, not sure about spdif, but it works great, granted all the parts apart from the GT220 i had already.

With current parts i guess the following would work

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/AMD-Athlo...65W-Retail
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Gigabyte-...D-MATX-VGA
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/1GB-Asus-...erDirector

Bear in mind that getting the GT220 to work might be a little more work than you expected.

*edit*
AM3 was launched on February 9, 2009 so there shouldn't be any problems getting it to work under linux, but i don't have one, so can't guarantee.
