So. TV Shows. How Do I Know What's On?!
#1
Question
I moved to an HTPC w/ XBMC as a cable TV alternative. This Saturday they come to take the cable cards out of my TivoHD.

So without a Tivo guide doing the work for me, I have to regularly check each show's wiki and keep track manually when a new episode of a show has aired.

I was using a website called Crap I Missed It, but they've gone down the toilet. No new e-mails or RSS feeds from them in a while.

So, is there a solution out there I'm just not finding?

Thanks! I saw the little RSS feed on the bottom of the homepage for "New Today". Subscribed to it. Hopefully this does the trick. Smile

I really like http://www.mytvshows.org/, it lets you pick the shows you want to follow, and then you can keep track of what episodes you've watched.

Plus it has a very useful tab that shows you what new episodes will be airing the next 7 or 30 days.

Ok, this site is awesome!! The RSS feed from TheTVdb is good, but there's no season or episode number listed and you (obviously) can't look into the future. With this site, like you said, you can bookmark the 7 day or 30 day page to see every show that you specifically choose. It's just really slick.

The only problem I see is that the site has no idea what upcoming shows there are unless you check off and add the current season. So for example, Fringe Season 3. It doesn't exist yet, but what happens when the premiere approaches? Will the site auto-add it for me and list the first episode in the Upcoming Episodes area? Or will I have to try and remember to go back....to each and every show....and checkoff new seasons as their added?

We'll see how that goes down the road. I'm keeping the RSS feed for TheTVdb in case that problem exists with the site. In that scenario the RSS feed will alert me to a new episode, I'll know the show's been gone so this must be the start of a new season, and then go to the site to manually add.

Regardless, this is awesome and I really appreciate the link. This makes keeping track of everything super convenient. Smile

Yeah that's the only problem I've noticed so far. It doesn't really hurt me because I always have the new season premiere dates marked in my calendar anyway Smile but it did bite me once for one of those series I really don't follow with much anticipation.

Result: one afternoon I accidentally discovered I had 5 or 6 new episodes to watch, which felt totally awesome, because I just love having a bunch of episodes to watch without that 1-week craving pause in between.

Makes me wish I didn't follow all my shows so religiously, sometimes.

Anyway, enjoy =) cheers

Try tvrage, you can add your shows there (no need to add seasons) and then use the RSS feed to get the airing in 7 days etc..

I use this site:
http://www.pogdesign.co.uk/cat/

Its great, lets you add shows, gives you a nice month view of when your shows are coming up, shows you info about the episode when you mouse over them, also has a next episode air date too.

You can subscribe to shows and get a rss feed with torrents.

It also shows what recently aired from you subscribed shows, and what is coming up.

Do any of these provide links to what shows are actually on-line and available for viewing?

Clicker.com seems to provide the on-line links I didn't see on the other sites (it actually works like a portal like Hulu, and you can make playlists. You create an account at http://www.clicker.com/create-an-account.html and then create a playlist, adjust your notification schedule, and you get a notice whenever a new show is added to your playlist.

I would recommend using SickBeard to manage/download your TV shows. It works similar to the mentioned mytvshows.org, only it also downloads new episodes for you and can also be setup to watch for old episodes to be uploaded. I still use mytvshows.org though to find new series to watch as SickBeard has no recommended series functionality.
