1) Does anyone know if there is an option to save the fanarts and thumbs in the actual directory of the film?

1) Yes, if you export the video library as multiple files, and choose to export the images as well. You should wind up with an nfo file containing the meta data, a filename.tbn image which is the thumb, and a filename-fanart.jpg image (i think that's what it gets named.)

2) I'm not sure if you can jump to the letter directly, but there are "nextletter" and "prevletter" actions than you can bind to a button.
