WoL, well, in theory.... it is capable and I activated it with ethtools, but I still couldn't work out how to properly send the magic packet from my android handset with XBMC remote on it.

Hannes, which trick did you use? I've spent a couple hours trying to get remote to work so I can update my post (thanks for the link, btw). Did you use just the standard trick that's in the wiki or did you have to apt-get the lirc drivers? That's the one technique I haven't tried yet.

apt-get install lirc

the rest is mostly automated, just setup lirc and choose right remote (when in doubt, use windows MCE)
