[LINUX] Launch programs on startup to an XBMC session
#1
I have just bought a revo, arriving tomorrow. I'm planning on following this guide: http://www.one-eye.co.uk/ since I can't find a 10.04 specific one on the forums.

I plan on using sabNZBd together with Sick Beard. I thought tis would be a simple case of a start up script.

In this post he mentions that following this to autostart XBMC, he has trouble loading services before XBMC session starts.

Is there any way I can set a startup script without booting into a gnome window, which presumably will considerably lengthen boot time.

Cheers.

I'm configuring Ubuntu with xbmc on a Zotac IONITX-B-E home built system now, and was given the tip to make my Ubuntu username and password "xbmc". I currently have the system booting to the desktop during configuration, but will change it to boot directly to xbmc when everything is set up the way I want it.

Even on my Atom 230 system, slower than your Revo will be, booting to the desktop is very fast. There's a setting for auto-login that has a one-second delay while you bypass the password prompt; I understand this can be even faster.

I may switch over to xbmc-live and use the HTPC just as "an appliance" booting only to xbmc. I understand booting from a hard drive with xbmc-live is very fast. I think you give up the option of dropping to the shell and firing up a web browser that way.
