Nexus player vs Fire TV 2. Hardware acceleration?
#1
I just picked up a Fire TV 2 and playing live tv off a ceton card and using the codecinfo overlay I can see that the FTV2 is using ffmpeg to decode the video.

Anyone able to confirm that Kodi is using hardware accel on Nexus player?

Anyone have any idea if new (16?) builds of Kodi will light up hardware accel on fire tv or are the devs not interested?

No, basically deinterlacing quality is lousy on any of the FireTV's for Live TV streams. Its using ffmpeg software decoding and this will not get any better.

AMLogic devices will give you quality TV deinterlacing on a budget.
The AMLogic S805 C1+ I have finished optimizing yesterday with OpenELEC Kodi runs very well now. Its virtually as fast as an Intel Machine Smile

Note that FireOS 5 should fix the bug regarding mpeg2 acceleration via mediacodec.
No idea on the quality of de-interlacing on AFTV 2, though
