as a cheap barebone the foxconn netbox *might* be ideal, lovely form factor, wlan with antenna, etc etc *but* the fan control is still a slight problem.
with XBMCbuntu it's okay, the fan is really quiet while watching movies and only turns on while in menu or a visualization is running. with windows, it's on full throttle all the time and speedfan crashes in the detection routine.

What means MSRP?

I think 299$ seems a bit too cheap für a shuttle product. It would be great if we could get this fanless nettop for this price, although the new design is not very stylish anymore Frown

design is no problem for me, i need a box to put behind my TV Nod

and the slightly better performance, still fanless, will do that trick...

i think 299 bugs will be without ram, hdd and operating system.... Shocked

why do they call the system XF35?? maybe a second new system?

new system in the house...

For the promise of a totally fanless system I can dig that price without ram/HDD. Still looking like a great bit of kit to me.... the 1.8Ghz processor is a nice touch too....

EDIT: just watched that video, very cool! Also forgot you get Wi-Fi baked into this unit, the think the price tag is more than reasonable. Bring it on ASAP please Shuttle! Smile

narf... since i've heard about this system, i google around for it every day to find a distributor Smile yeah i'am crazy Big Grin

some new information:

for the people who cant read german, here some points of the article:

release date with ion chipset :07/2010
release date with gma chipset : 08/2010

Price 350 Euro with RAM, HDD and Optical drive (dont know which system, how much of RAM or HDD, and i think only DVD drive)

Here some Information in english for french market:

Quote:Nettops are getting more and more powerful and capable with the new range of processors from Intel, although they are still very far off from being a suitable desktop. Shuttle's XS35 is able to hold the fort pretty well though, being first introduced at CES earlier this year, sporting a dual core Atom D510 processor not to mention the next generation ION graphics chipset from NVIDIA. What makes the XS35 even more special is the fact that it does not contain a fan, making it even smaller than usual, while an empty 5.25" drive bay lets you slip in a Blu-ray drive if you want to. Other ports include HDMI out, five USB 2.0 ports, VGA and LAN. Bringing home the Shuttle XS35 isn't going to be a cheap affair though, as we're looking at a 320 Euro price tag sans RAM, storage or optical drive when it hits France this September

320€ w/o optical drive, hard disk and RAM ... that's a bit expensive, but still much less than the new Mac Mini's 800€.

So, assuming I want to build a silent box to stream content from a NAS and read the occasional DVD, a rough estimation would be :

- slim DVD : 30€
- 2 GB RAM : 50€
- 32 GB SSD : 120€
- Harmony 600 Remote + USB IR adapter : 100€

That's 620€ for the whole setup.

Alternately, to lower the price, I could put in a silent 160 GB, 5400 RPM HDD like Samsung's Spinpoint M5S for 50€, and get the Hauppage MCE instead of the Harmony for 40€, bringing the price just below 500€.

How would you build a XS35 HTPC?

Press release the other day on Shuttle's US site. Renamed the X350. It looks like the first launch in the US will be with the ION D510...

http://us.shuttle.com/News.aspx#100622

"The X350 will be available for ordering on the Shuttle website starting this week."

I get confused with all the model number changing. This is the same box yes?
