[LIVE] H.264 no video
#1
Hi all,

I've just built an HTPC, the specs are:
Athlon II X2 250 (3 Ghz, dual core), 2 gigs ram

I'm running the latest stable XBMC Live.

My video out is DVI to HDMI, connected to a 1080p TV.

I have several 720 H.264 videos, when I play them, there's audio, but no video. It appears that XBMC is creating thumbnails of these videos, however (in the menus).

I read here:
http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=XBM....264_Files

That you need to install mplayer-nogui.

I did this (dropped to a root bash shell and installed successfully using:
aptitude install mplayer-nogui

There were no errors during install, and it did install about 10 packages.

After doing so, I rebooted, but still no video.

Any hints?

What would be useful is a debug log of you playing one of these videos.

mplayer_nogui is a red herring - XBMC does not use any external players such as mplayer by default.

Cheers,
Jonathan

Interesting. Perhaps if/when I get my issue solved I'll update that wiki.

In the meantime -- which log file(s) would you be interested in? Where do I find it/them?

I'll do a search myself now and see if I find anything useful.

Just look up (or down now that I've responded)

OK.

Here's the log:
http://pastebin.com/Af0mCm2w

I've trimmed it to the relevant info.

I'm wondering if this is the problem:
ERROR: (VDPAU) Error: The system does not have enough resources to complete the requested operation at this time.(23) at VDPAU.cpp:938

Doing a quick google search -- seems this can happen if there's not enough video RAM?

My video card specs:

(II) Jun 08 14:29:36 NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA GPU GeForce 8200 (C77) at PCI:2:0:0 (GPU-0)
(--) Jun 08 14:29:36 NVIDIA(0): Memory: 262144 kBytes

So .. more searching reveals this:

I'm using a GeForce 8200-ITX.

Looks like I'm just screwed. Being mini-ITX, I can't add a different video card.

I've found that if I change my rendering method to GLSL, then it plays fine.
