#1
hello !
i met an issue with HD TV Channels with TVHeadEnd / VDR Streamdev & VDR VNSI : I have no sound with HD Channels with sound coded with AC3+ .

I would like to know if AC3+ is supported by XBMC or if i have missed something !

Quote:E-AC-3 (Dolby Digital Plus) is an enhanced coding system based on the AC-3 codec. It offers increased bitrates (up to 6.144 Mbit/s), support for more audio channels (up to 13.1), and improved coding techniques to reduce compression artifacts. It is not backward compatible with existing AC-3 hardware, though E-AC-3 decoders generally are capable of transcoding to AC-3 or DTS for equipment connected via S/PDIF. Only the discontinued HD DVD system directly supported E-AC-3, though Blu-ray Disc offers E-AC-3 as a option to graft additional channels onto an otherwise 5.1 AC-3 stream.

Do you own any E-AC3 capable decoder at first? Smile

first sorry for my english...

i use a stereo system plugged on my media center. It s not a home cinema system (5.1 7.1) but just stereo one. So it work fine with all mkv with ac3 etc.... but i have 3 TV HD channel without sound. An other HD one has AC3 sound and works fine.
And it seems the multiplex on which the 3 TV HD channels are broadcasted are AC3+ .

Don't worry your English is fine,

According to the wiki http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=XBM...ats/Codecs
XBMC supports E-AC3

Quote:AC3 2.0 or 5.1 and Dolby Digital EX 6.1 or 7.1 audio in video (AC3 digital cable S/PDIF pass-through)
Dolby Digital AC3 and AC3-WAV/AC3-CDDA 2.0 and 5.1 audio in video software decoded to stereo analog-out
Dolby Digital Plus (a.k.a. E-AC3), and Dolby TrueHD 7.1 audio software decoder
Dolby Digital Plus (a.k.a. E-AC3), and Dolby TrueHD 7.1 audio in Blu-ray rips via digital cable S/PDIF pass-through

The only biggie I believe is that it does not support the stereo analog-out downmix function for E-AC3,

Perhaps a dev could confirm?

(e.g. I can't listen to E-AC3 neither because my decoder does not support it and the downmix does not work)

it seems that a patch exists for ffmpeg to take into account eac3. Does xbmc is linked to ffmpeg or use ffmpeg as lib ? Or in other words, if i patch ffmpeg under ubuntu 10.04, do modifications will be automatically taking into account ?

Hello! I don't believe updating your external ffmpeg would do the trick for XBMC since I believe XBMC uses an embedded version of ffmpeg which is updated from time to time.

Really could use some old GuRuS advices here I believe Blush

Honestly when I don't know the answer I've learned to shush so can't answer unfortunately Eek

Nevertheless, I believe merging the patch in XBMC's source isn't such an easy job.

But perhaps if spiff, steelman or any other kind soul is passing by perhaps they have an accurate answer I'm sure, wait & see Nod
