svn vdpau broken?
#1
Is anyone else having problems with vdpau working in the latest svn?

What is even more annoying is after installing the latest svn, vdpau seems to have stopped working on my old xbmc install as well (i installed the svn to /opt/xbmc/ and the current xbmc is instaled via the team-xbmc-ppa)

It's very strange....i can select VDPAU in the older xbmc as a rendering option...but when i play a movie it doesn't use it.

in the svn xbmc, i can't select VDPAU as a rendering option but there is a checkbox for "Use hardware decoding (VDPAU)" and that is selected....

any help would be greatly appreciated.....i'm having a bad day with this machine....it took me forever to get sound working over hdmi (it's an ion2 based machine...) and now i have this issue....arggg

edit:

i just noticed....switching back to my older version vdpau DOES seem to be working on mkv files but not on mp4 based files....strange.

I'm using an SVN version from yesterday and VDPAU is working fine as far as I know. I do have the same thing in settings where VDPAU is not in the rendering options, but does show as the checkbox below. I think they've just changed they way it shows in the settings. When I play an mkv, I can see that it's using VDPAU. Also, I thought I read on another post from one of the devs that VDPAU doesn't work with MP4. Let me see if I can find that.

yeah, it's def. not working for me. I have both versions instralled to different locations, trying to use the svn will play videos but it won't use vdpau.....the same files play with vdpau if i use the ppa release (note: i can't seem to get the svn ppa working for my build right now....this is what i normally use but it won't allow me to install period)

I gave up on the svn ppa for now and have just been compiling it manually.

when i was testing with the svn ppas (last week) it was some hassle. i had to install libvdpau1 and 1 or 2 other compatibility things.

sorry i cant help you alot more, the testing xbmc is on a harddisk in my company Smile

I've recompiled everything and now i'm having a new issue.

Most videos seem to work with vdpau, but some fail...the videos which are failing do not seem to use vdpau in the older xbmc version i have...but now it tries to use it....failing with an error like this:

You're out of video ram.

i know that is what the error says but it's got to be a bug in xbmc. This doesn't happen with any other video player, and it doesn't happen with the older ion based machines...only ion machines with mpeg4 acceleration....
