The new Mac Mini just landed. It's smaller with a unibody enclosure, no power brick, HDMI, a bit more grunt in the CPU dept and Apple Remote support.
Ladies and gentlemen, I have placed the order for my new XBMC system.

It's got a fan though - 'so quiet you'll barely hear it' - I've heard that before.
Still think the fanless Shuttle with ION2 looks to be the better machine (and hopefully cheaper to boot, although I am not that fussed on price if the machine functions perfectly). Furthermore, it should have been a BD drive (although I personally don't care, the ultimate machine in this arena would have to have one I think). Doesn't seem to come with a remote anymore either.... Certainly looks gorgeous, though. My XBMC stuff: ...inc: |

Agreed - looks nice, but overpriced. Without a fan, it would maybe be an option.

I really wonder what their target audience is - 800 Euros ... outch.

I remember that the nice Cube failed cause they missed the target: too expensive for consumers and no enough power for Prousers (compared to the PowerMac).
One of the biggest flop in Apple history! |

Some questions...
1. Will this GPU handle 1080p content? 2. Is the $20 remote any good and will it work "out of the box" with xbmc? Could I run Linux on it and use LIRC for remote control? 3. Someone mentioned a fanless shuttle with ION2 being better. Is it really better than Core 2 Duo? How much better? What would a similar system cost? 4. Un-related to XBMC.... How do you think NetFlix would look on this vs. the PS3? I know the PS3 looks better than a Windows PC so I'm assuming OSX would be the same. |
