I downloaded the Live CD .iso and dumped it onto a 4GB USB stick.

I then booted to the Live USB and was eventually greeted by a $ prompt.

I thought this was supposed to boot to the XBMC front end not a shell.

What do i do to make the Live CD / USB boot straight to the the XBMC dashboard.

obviously something went wrong there.
first login as xbmc/xbmc and try "xinit xbmc-standalone"

if this works and you're greeted with the glorious XBMC menu, you can try to exit to command line again and do a "dpkg-reconfigure xbmc-live"

if nothing of the above works, I suggest reinstalling.
