How can I make subtitle for movies work? In what folder should I keep them?
Here what I tried, and which didn't work for me.
I name srt file and avi file the same: name.avi name.srt
I tried to place srt file into sub or subtitle folder.
What can I do?

You should name the subtitle file the same as the movie file.
Ex: movie.avi movie.srt
And place them in the same folder.
When you play the movie in XBMC, bring up the media panel (M) and go over to Video Settings. Make sure subtitles are turned on, and enjoy!

I do name them the same name. But how come they don't show up automatically?

I don't think they're enabled by default. You have to select the Audio Settings from the OSD panel while playing a video, and then enable subtitles. Just Set as Default for all Movies, and they should load every time.
