Cannot get folder images to change
#1
Question
Here is my problem. I have manually created different images for all my folders containing tv shows in XBMC by naming each image "folder.jpg" and uploading them into each folder. That works great, and XBMC displays the image I created when I pass over the folder.

BUT, when I try to change the image by replacing the folder.jpg file with a new one, it just continues to show the old image. It appears that the 1st "folder.jpg" image I place in each folder stays around for ever, no mater what I do. Erasing the file, replacing it, reseting the xbox, nothing gets rid of the 1st image I put in the folder, and it shows it for ever.

I need to find a way to force xbmc to read the new "folder.jpg" file I place the directory and stop displaying the graphics from the old files "folder.jpg" that I have replaced.

There must be an easy way to do this, but I just cant find it. Please help.

I think this is a general XBMC question that would apply to all platforms and skins, but just in case here is my configuration:

XBMC R26941
on an original xBox
w/ MediaStream Redux skin

I apologize if this question has been answered already, but I have searched online manuals and discussions for months, and I just cannot find the answer to this.

Thanks,
Jez

Hi there,

You may want to pop over to xbmc4xbox - we don't do xbox support here any longer.

Cheers,
Jonathan

Well ok, I'll check them out too; but I don't think it matters what platform my xbmc is on. It just has to do with the basic functions of XBMC on any hardware; How do you force XBMC to recognize new "folder.jpg" files after you change them.

It seams like there would be a simple option I am overlooking, I just don't know what it is.

Sorry, I have no idea what has and hasn't been merged to the xbox or what bugs may or may not exist there. This particular function greatly depends on where the folder is (movie/tvshow/music album etc.)

got 2 great answers over at XBMC4XBOX (in case anyone has the same question):

---------
Quote:"When XBMC first sees a folder/media icon, it re-writes it into a standardised image format (certain dimensions etc) and sticks the result in the thumbnails section of your Userdata folder (named according to a hash code for the file/folder path). From then on, it just refers to this cached version - you'll need to hunt that down and delete it."
---------
Quote:"@ Jez1111- Try changing "T.V. Show Name" to "T.V. Show Names". Power Xbox down and back up and then rewrite name without the "S". This works with some builds. If you have no luck go to Video/ T.V. Shows, hit white button, down to choose thumbnail hit A . Then Browse/Q drive/ userdata/ thumbnails/ video. You should now have 0,1,2,3- fanart displayed. Open one at a time and when you find the picture your trying to get rid of, write down the file number. Now go back to file manager and enter Q drive/ userdata/ thumbnails/ video/ 0- fanart, " which ever you found it in then down to the file number you wrote down and delete it. Yes, I know this is a really Arse about way but it works on all builds. Just be aware sometimes XBMC has a few copies of this same picture in these userdata/ thumbnails folders for some reason and you might not delete the right one first time. Hopefully the first way will work for you. If not good hunting. You will be amazed at some of the pictures you find in those Q userdata files, just don't have the kids around if you've used any of the "porn" scripts in the past because you will have lots of porn pictures you've never seen there as well that will pop up while you are searching."
------

Also, I myself found that by forcing XBMC to relookup the info from an online database it will also force it to reread the "folder.jpg" file in the folder, which is what I was after.
