No digital sound

Hello forum

First, xbmc is a very famous project =)

I have a xbmc media center on Ubuntu Lucid Lynx.
My problem is, that i can't hear sound when i play a video with digital 5.1 sound output over hdmi, but analog 5.1 works well.

I think the problem is the passthrough device in the audio settings, but what's the correct device?, or a pulseaudio setting.....
passthrough settings iec958, hdmi, custom plughw:0,3 don't work.

My system:
xbmc Built on Jun 18 2010 (SVN:31181)
XBMC Audio settings: hdmi, 5.1, dts aac ...
Lucid Lynx amd64
ATI Radeon HD5850

Code:
rsgos@mc001:~$ aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: Generic [HD-Audio Generic], device 3: ATI HDMI [ATI HDMI]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
rsgos@mc001:~$ aplay -L
pulse
Playback/recording through the PulseAudio sound server
hdmi:CARD=Generic
    HD-Audio Generic, ATI HDMI
    HDMI Audio Output
rsgos@mc001:~$

alsamixer get only "S/PDIF".

Pulseaudio output device: http://yfrog.com/f1screenshotvolumecontrolp

Thanks a lot for every help =)

I've found a curious solution.
When i start the ubuntu session as XBMC and not Gnome, than I can hear digital sound. But when I start with Gnome session and start XBMC manually, I can only hear sound when I set analog as output. :confused2:

Anyway, the sound is good, but the sound of the rear speakers is quietly.
How I can set the volume only of the rear speakers?

Your user need to belong to the "audio" group.

Since you are doing passthough, you have no control of the sound volume, you have to do everything in your receiver. AFAIK.

Yes I think too.

But the sound is now ok, the problem is solved with the XBMC session.
